St Anthony ordains Ngwenya
16 Dec 2014
St Anthony Catholic Church ordinated Gaone Ngwenya as the Parish priest over the weekend.
After completing his BGCSE at Lotsane Senior Secondary School, Ngwenya attended Mazowe minor seminary for one year and furthered his studies at St Augustine Seminary in Zimbabwe for three years.
Speaking during the ordination at St Anthony, assistant minister of education, Mr Moiseraele Goya said Deacon Ngwenya had been a loyal servant of God hence the ordination convening a spiritual gift of grace in him.
“The congregation has never doubted you and we trust that as you administer most sacraments in the church you will be mindful of your responsibility to strengthen and grow the Lord’s house,” he said.
He urged Deacon Ngwenya to stand firm and let nothing move him adding, “always give yourself fully to the work of the Lord because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain.”
Mr Goya, who is also the Member of Parliament for Palapye, said the ordination of Deacon Ngwenya conferred a spiritual gift of grace and should be received with open hearts for it was God’s will.
He said God was starting yet another journey with Deacon Ngwenya which required total obedience, trust in him, humility, submission and above all total reliance on his power, presence and promises for life.
“I wish you all the best as you are bestowed this powerful position of religious authority. I believe you are ready to walk in the fear of the Lord which is the beginning of all wisdom as we serve him,” he said. In addition, the assistant minister said the importance attached to the church comes a long way saying that the growing development of common consciousness and moral experience on which the advent of democracy is dependent comes from Christianity.
He said democracy should not be deviated from Christianity as the real problems of the world can only be solved with reference to the biblical Christian principles. For his part, Bishop Frank Nubuasah encouraged Deacon Ngwenya to have a partnership with God and be exemplary to the congregation.
He urged him not to disappoint God or the congregation as he is ordained a priest in order to serve the people and address their spiritual needs.
Bishop Nubuasah urged the congregation to give the newly ordained priest support and avoid tempting him. Catholic leaders take the vow of celibacy and cannot get into marriage.
Deacon Ngwenya thanked his family and everybody who played a role in his upbringing. He thanked the catholics for the courage and support they gave him whilst undergoing the process of priesthood. ENDS
