Mbulawa calls for Maun transformation

16 Dec 2014

North West District Council chairperson, Mr Reaboka Mbulawa has called on stakeholders to partner with the council to transform the image of the tourist destination into a desirable environment.

Speaking during the chairperson’s ball, Mr Mbulawa described Maun as a gate way to the Okavango Delta, saying that calls for all stakeholders to join hands and uplift the beauty of the village by keeping it clean and safe.

He said through collective efforts, they could make Maun the best tourism destination. Mr Mbulawa said an untidy environment was a concern especially that the situation was exacerbated by stray animals such as donkeys, cattle and dogs that roamed the mall.

He said Ngamiland District had potential to be an agro-tourism hub noting that would attract more investors resulting in employment creation for the locals. “We are sitting on a wealth of natural resources which could be turned into opportunities and benefit the community,” he added.

He said the district was blessed with skilled and knowledgeable workforce, which could produce expected results. The council chairperson said he was optimistic that the political wing would also represent the aspiration of the communities diligently and not put their interests first.

The success of the North West council relies upon excellent service delivery by both public employees and political wing, he said. Meanwhile, a 22-year-old beauty from Qangwa, Kewame Mochaka who was recently crowned Miss Remote Area Development Programme (RADP) pageant queen graced the occasion.

She shared her mandate with the gathering which includes teaching and empowering other youth in their respective villages about the importance of government programs.

Ms Kewame said she has realised that education is not valued in Qangwa, a situation which perpetuates the cycle of poverty in the village. ENDS
