Elderly deserve care
19 Oct 2014
President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama says government yearns for a society where every individual is taken care of.
President Khama said this on Saturday, October 18, during an evening session with the elderly in Gabane, where he donated food and blankets while the Gabane Ministers Fraternal received Bibles.
He said it was important to take care of the elderly and encouraged Batswana to accord them proper care at all times. On other issues, the President told Gabane residents that following the world economic recession, government was forced to shelf some of the projects.
He said during the recession, government came up with programmes that ensured that Batswana were able to withstand the challenges brought about by the recession. President Khama cited amongst them ISPAAD, poverty eradication programme and youth empowerment initiatives.
However, he said as the economy showed signs of recovery, government would start rolling out some of the projects. Furthermore, President Khama said government was aware of the state of Gabane internal roads and they would be attended to when national coffers improved.
Earlier, when welcoming the President to the kgotla, Kgosi Seeletso Pule decried the bad status of the Gabane internal roads. He said due to inadequate tarred road, residents were forced to travel long distances to board combis hence they were often targeted by criminals.
Kgosi Pule also decried shortage of staff and office accommodation especially for police officers. He also requested for a caravan to house the police office at the village kgotla and further said the tribal administration office did not have a vehicle.
However, President Khama said he had noted issues raised by Kgosi Pule and they would be followed up. ENDS
