Stanbic donates to Kagisano children

Stanbic Bank Botswana has donated educational books and toys to the children of Kagisano Society Women’s Shelter (KSWS).
In his remarks at the handing over ceremony on May 2, the head of the bank’s workplace banking, Mr Samuel Otlhomile said the bank had a long standing commitment to bettering the communities in which it operated and that the donation was an extension of the commitment.
He said corporate social investment was a key pillar in the bank strategy and a key part of the foundations and principles the bank lives every day.
With so many challenges and problems in the society, Mr Otlhomile said people often forgot the simple things that could bring joy such as a happy child and a playful smile in the form of a toy or turning the pages of a new book.
“These are memories many of us may hold dear from our own happy childhoods, unmarred by some of the difficulties many of the children at Kagisano have endured,” he said.
In addition, Mr Otlhomile stated that they aim to nurture personal culture of saving and money management to inspire sustainable financial independence.
Meanwhile, director of KSWS, Ms Lorato Moalusi-Sakufiwa noted that with a team of 23 staff members including interns and volunteers, they strive to put an end to gender-based violence in Botswana through the provision of safe and caring temporary shelter, counselling, community education and outreach and advocacy.
“To have an increasing number of corporates such as Stanbic Bank recognise our efforts and join us in creating more positive memories for those kids affected by gender based violence is admirable,” she said.
KSWS established in 1998 houses women and children who seek an escape from their unsafe homes. It was established in response to gender based violence, in particular violence against women and children. ENDS
