24 Mar 2014

President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama over the weekend donated Bibles, blankets and chairs to the people of Kazungula in the Chobe District, and urged them to put their faith in God in any endeavour they undertake.

Addressing the elderly at the village kgotla on Sunday, March 23, President Khama said because of their faith in God, the nation’s prayers were recently answered when good rains fell throughout the country. “Because of these good rains, I am confident that many farmers will this year realise bumper harvests,” he said.

President Khama also donated eight Bibles to the Kazungula and Plateau kgotla for distribution to pastors in the villages.

The President also donated 40 chairs for the Kasane and Kazungula kgotla, lamps for those who were not connected to the electricity grid, camp chairs for dikgosi and blankets for the elderly. The President and his entourage, which included some cabinet ministers, later hosted a soup dinner for the elderly.

President Khama told residents that he was aware that they had many challenges and promised that they would be resolved during a proper kgotla meeting.

Earlier on, Kgosi Morgan Makhanga of Kazungula had invited President Khama to visit them again for a proper kgotla meeting during which their various concerns would be addressed.

“Our village has a high number of elderly and destitute people who need assistance from government. Many of us want to take advantage of the good rains by ploughing, but we have no means to do so.  We live in deprivation,” said Kgosi Makhanga.

President Khama and his entourage were on a four village tour of the Chobe District which included the villages of Kazungula, Kasane, Satau and Parakarungu. Ends
