Government is fully aware that digital education fosters problem-solvers, entrepreneurs and leaders who will contribute to economic growth, social equity and sustainable development.

The Minister of Communication and Innovation, Mr David Tshere said this  recently during the official opening of a digital centre at Kgomodiatshaba Primary School in Kgatleng District donated by BOCRA. The investment towards the project was done at a cost of P1.3 million and was completed in three months within budget, scope and of desired quality.

The Digital Centre comprises of 30 desktop computers, 30 separate compartments and chairs, two teacher laptops, a digital smart board, white board, heavy duty printer, air-conditioners, an office, a server room, Local Area Network and high-speed broadband internet connectivity.

Mr Tshere described the collaboration of his ministry and other stakeholders as the development agents on a mission to advance the government’s pursuit of digital transformation agenda. He said the facility would bring Kgomodiatshaba Primary School and the village into the fold of the digital world and within reach of every place in the world.

“The fit for purpose digital centre stands as a symbol of progress in the quest to bridge the gap between rural and urban communities,” explained Mr Tshere.

He said the facility was a demonstration of government’s commitment to harnessing technology for development. He said the initiative was to provide learners with a facility that would serve as a hub for coding, digital research, and interactive learning adding that it would serve as a gateway to creativity and knowledge for students providing learners with online access and modern digital resources to enhance their studies.

Mr Tshere said the centre would also support teachers with modern tools for enhanced teaching methods. He said government strongly believed that digital centres were critical in building a robust economy and positioning the nation as a leader in innovation hence.

Mr Tshere said it was not by chance that his ministry and stakeholders were in Kgomodiatshaba to unveil a digital centre but it was by design and part of a broader vision to nurture an innovation-driven society. He said government had  partnered with stakeholders in the private and public sector to advance all facets of the digital economy architecture.

“I wish to appreciate BOCRA through the Universal Access and Services Fund for its continued drive to bring internet connectivity and ICTs into schools, particularly primary schools,” he said.

Mr Tshere emphasised that the Digital Centre was more than just equipment but a gateway to empowerment and innovation therefore, he urged learners, teachers and the community to make full use of it and to preserve it for future generations. ENDS
