Primeone Company has announced a two-year partnership with Botswelelo Primary School to enhance hygiene and safety standards within the school’s kitchen facilities.
The initiative, facilitated through collaboration with the North West District Council, aims to train food handlers, improve kitchen hygiene practices and ensure operational efficiency of kitchen equipment. During this period, Primeone will conduct comprehensive training sessions for food handlers, focusing on proper food handling procedures, kitchen hygiene protocols, and the correct operation of kitchen extractors.
Additionally, the company will undertake quarterly deep cleaning of the school’s kitchen to maintain high hygiene standards. In an interview, Primeone’s Managing Director, Ms Utlwang Keabetswe, emphasised the importance of functional kitchen extractors.
“Many schools have modern kitchens with advanced extractor gadgets, but we have observed that maintenance and knowledge on their operation are often overlooked. At Botswelelo, the extractor fan is inactive, and the kitchen environment is not in an appropriate, which is concerning given that many food handlers lack proper training on its use,” she said.
Ms Keabetswe highlighted that kitchen extractors played a vital role in maintaining a healthy cooking environment by efficiently removing fumes, steam, and odours. She noted that when ‘these devices are not operational, it can lead to moisture buildup, lingering odours, and even health hazards such as food poisoning, allergies, and skin conditions like cancer.’ ENDS
