Speaking during the graduation ceremony held under the theme: Bridging the Digital Gap, Principal Library Officer, Ms Tracy Mpolokang said the course was part of the Sesigo programme under Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs, aimed at closing the gap in digital technology and literacy by offering free Internet access and a foundational ICT certification.
She said the course was available to community members from various backgrounds.
She highlighted that it was by means of ICT skills that individuals could access opportunities both in their local area and overseas.
“Possessing fundamental ICT skills enables individuals to explore the Internet and seek opportunities globally. Additionally, having these basic ICT skills provides a chance to offer solutions to problems, often resulting in a competitive edge for those skilled compared to those lacking such abilities,” she said.
One of the graduates, Ms Refilwe Selebogo (28), said the programme was a means to ensure everyone had access to chances of enhancing their lives through ICT-driven solutions.
“I value the chance to benefit from free education. I intend to apply the skills I acquired to improve my inventory management at my tuckshop. Excel is an excellent tool for monitoring stocks, payments, and deliveries,” she stated.
Additionally, she encouraged the community to participate in the programme and utilise available Internet services to perform online activities like applying for scholarships, making online business orders and engaging in online trading. ENDS
