Satellite schools meet operational requirements
06 Dec 2023
At least two classrooms with teacher’s offices, a kitchenette for food preparation, staff and learner’s ablution blocks and at least staff houses are the basic infrastructural requirements to operationalise a satellite school.
Answering a question in Parliament, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Mr Sethabelo Modukanele said Tsodilo, Xhauga, Shaikarawe and Mowana primary schools had the basic infrastructural requirements. He said teachers at Mowana and Shaikarawe were accommodated in Village Development Committee houses.
He said the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) utilities were not yet adequate for the delivery of modern quality education adding that only Tsodilo primary school had been installed with a solar plant to enable basic ICT operation.
Mr Modukanele added that his ministry together with other stakeholders such as the education ministry were making concerted efforts to bridge the digital divide by supporting digitalization initiatives.
He said not every school had been covered due to the unavailability of power, gadgets such as tablets and relevant ICT infrastructure.
The assistant minister said funds permitting his ministry would endeavour to expand the digitalization initiative to the other three schools.
The Member of Parliament for Okavango, Mr Kenny Kapinga had asked the minister to share the basic infrastructural requirements for a satellite school to become operational.
He also asked the minister to confirm whether Tsodilo, Xhauga, Shaikarawe and Mowana schools have the basic infrastructure and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) utilities necessary for the delivery of modern quality education. ends
