Answering a question in Parliament, Assistant Minister of Health, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe said construction was anticipated to start during the 2024/25 financial year.

He said the  ministry was currently engaging the Ministry of Transport and Public Works on the review and finalisation of the designs while other pre-contract activities would be undertaken during the 2023/24 financial year.

Mr Lelatisitswe said the project started in 2017 with designs having progressed up to stage 4a, the documentation stage. “The project was then suspended due to budgetary constraints and it was at the tendering stage,” he said.

On the expansion of Gulubane Health Post through the CCP in collaboration with the ministry, the assistant minister acknowledged such efforts and pointed out that the North East District Council (NEDC) contributed P370 00 while MoH contributed over P1 million  towards implementation.

He clarified that the delay in the implementation of the Gulubane project was due to the need to revise the drawings to the required health quality standards, as such, the drawings were currently being revised by the NEDC and MoH Architects and were anticipated to be completed in the third quarter of 2023/24.

He said following completion of the designs, the drawings would then be finalised for possible additional costs, adding that the construction was therefore expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2023/24 financial year.

Mr Lelatisitswe said the ministry will develop a tentative implementation plan and share the same with the MP for the region to ensure that the expansion was carried out effectively.

MP for Tati West, Mr Simon Moabi, had asked for an update on the upgrading of Zwenshambe Health Post and whether the assistant minister was aware of the offer by Tati West MP to assist with expansion of Gulubane Health Post.

He also wanted to know the reasons for the delay in the commencement of the project and plans in place to ensure that such delays do not occur in future. Ends
