Deputy secretary for financial policy in the Ministry of Finance, Ms Boikanyo Mathipa has commended BONA Life for its role in the development and growth of Botswana’s economy by providing relatively top-notch insurance products and services over the past 10 years.
Speaking at BONA Life 10th anniversary celebrations in Gaborone on Tuesday, Ms Mathipa said BONA Life had helped to protect individuals and businesses from financial risks, adding that by investing in the community, the company had in turn created jobs, supported local businesses and contributed to the overall economic growth of the nation.
“As I was driving over here today, I was reminded of the incredible spirit and resilience of the people of Botswana,” she said.
She said the company’s commitment to progress, surmount incredible challenges, innovate as well as stay competitive in a highly competitive industry and still build a better future for all, was an inspiration to all Batswana.
“Over the past 10 years, we have seen BONA Life grow and evolve, starting from the bustling cities of Gaborone and Francistown to being felt in rural villages including Kumakwane and Gabane. I am informed that over the past year, BONA Life has built a team of talented and dedicated young professionals who share the commitment to excellence, and who are proud to serve this country,” she said.
Ms Mathipa highlighted the importance of insurance as a critical component of any economy, saying it provided protection and security for individuals, businesses and communities.
“Insurance helps to stabilise the economy, protecting against unforeseen events that can lead to financial difficulties and also enables individuals and businesses to also take risks and pursue their dreams, knowing that they had a safety net in case things go wrong,” she said.
Ms Mathipa implored BONA Life to change the status quo of the insurance sector and come up with new products and services that would meet the needs of families and businesses.
“These families and businesses will need that help, security and the peace of mind that BONA Life insurance has capacity to provide,” she said.
She added that the ministry would continue to provide policies and frameworks that aided and assisted companies like BONA Life to grow, innovate and evolve in order to stay ahead of the curve and offer their clients the best insurance products and services in the country.
For her part, BONA Life chief executive officer, Ms Phatsimo Keakabetse said they were thrilled to take the company to the next level.
Ms Keakabetse thus thanked their shareholder, Botswana Public Officers Pensions Fund (BPOPF), for investing in their company.
She said as a young and Botswana-based business, they understood, firsthand the power of unity and that collaboration would help the company to achieve greatness.
“When we looked ahead to the future, we realised that we needed a refreshed, modern approach to our brand. A brand that would encapsulate the national pride, the values and importantly a home we love so much and the brand continues to see ahead of time,” she said.
She explained that the brand was inspired by rich Botswana colours, patterns and traditions, adding that the choice of colours paid homage to their history and future of being studious.
“Our brand intentionally instills pride in an era where nationality is often marred with doubt, this refreshed brand represents our commitment to Batswana with integrity, compassion, excellence and the spirit of BOTHO. This is the purpose of BONA Life and we are delighted to inspire these values in every decision that we make,” she added. Ends
