31 Jan 2013
Tutume Sub-district Deputy District Commissioner, Mr Michael Chilimba has said following the recent floods, the situation in the area was returning to normal.
Mr Chilimba said 110 tents were allocated in the area. The area covers villages such as Nata, Senete, Sepako, Kutamogoree, Zoroga, Tsokatshaa, Marapong, Matsitama, Mosetse, Tutume, Lepashe and Dukwi.
He said his office was no longer receiving reports which was an indication that the situation was getting back to normal. Mr Chilimba noted that the 125 refugees who were accommodated at Dukwi Primary School have been moved back to their homes at the camp.
He explained that the refugees were relocated because their houses were in a flooded area. However none of their houses collapsed.
Sowa Town Deputy District Commissioner, Mr Mokgethi Nfila said in his area, the 98 people who were recently relocated as a result of the floods had been moved back to their residential homes. He said the victims ,who were from Tshwaane, Malelejwe and Semoane, were moved on January 26.
They had been relocated at the height of the floods on January 17. He said nine tents were allocated to some of the families whose houses were still water logged and they would use the tents for a period of three months.
He said should the problem of floods arise again, the town in partnership with the Tutume Sub district would consider accommodating the victims in government facilities at Dukwi instead of Sowa.
Meanwhile the Department of Meteorological Services has forecast normal to above normal rains until the end of March in most parts of the country. ENDS
