Members of the Botswana Police Service have offered support, hope and a renewed life to Selomi family of Extension I in Palapye.
The family received a renovated house, toilet, connected standpipe, food and clothing. Handing over the donation in Palapye over the weekend, Commissioner of Police, Mr Keabetswe Makgophe commended his officers for delivering on the project.
“In as much as food and shelter are considered life necessities for which people cannot survive without, there are thousands of homeless and hungry citizens who need support to carry on. We have to support these fellow citizens,” he said.
He said the Botswana Police Service was committed to ensuring the provision of a professional policing service for the safety and security of Batswana and as such the organisation continuously engaged the community, partners and stakeholders in its crime reduction efforts.
The organisation, he said, would in addition to delivering on its primary mandate, continue to engage in corporate social responsibility initiatives as well as support other programmes of national priority such as HIV/AIDS and poverty eradication .
For his part, MP for Palapye Mr Moiseraele Goya, thanked the police for extending a helping hand to the Selomi family. He said what the officers did was in line with the country’s national long term Vision 2016 pillar which called for a compassionate and caring nation.
He said Palapye was growing at a fast pace and he proposed for the village to be declared a town . He noted that the police donation was paving way for Palapye to be declared a town, adding that when that becomes a reality, modern houses will be required. Speaking on behalf of the family, Ms Onneile Selomi thanked the police for making life better for her family. ENDS
