Parent support in education critical

Orange marketing coordinator Mr Norbert Mathumo has said the presence of parents in a child’s education had a significant impact in their performance.
Speaking during the Prize giving ceremony and 25th anniversary of Mopipi Junior Secondary School in Mopipi on August 4, Mr Mathumo informed parents that active support in education of their children was key. He said if the mental state of a child was not healthy their performance would be affected.
He expressed concern about the state of the school hostel saying it needed immediate attention.
The deputy school head Mr Innocent Tshoswane said the school was committed to actively raising the academic level for every child. The aim, he said, was to have all children regardless of circumstance achieve their full potential.
Mr Tshoswane called for teamwork between all stakeholders.
He said the school’s performace had been average though lately performance had plunged to 17.1 per cent (Merit, A ,B grades) and 48.6 percent (Merit, A,B,C).
He indicated that the school was facing challenges of lack of resources, water scarcity, unreliable power supply, absent parentage and lack of proper guidance from home.
Mr Tshoswane indicated that the school capacity stood at 682 with 357 boys and 325 girls whilst boarding facilities had 332 learners. Orange Botswana donated tables and cabinets for boarding learners as well as gifts for best performing students. ENDS
