28 May 2018
Permanent Secretary to the President, Mr Carter Morupisi has commended Kediretswe Primary School for their good performance in the 2017 Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) and gifted them with more than 25 Huawei tablets.
The school attained 78.6 per cent in the category of AB and 98 per cent ABC compared to 36.7 per cent AB and 69.7 per cent ABC in 2016.
Mr Morupisi said the performance indicated an improvement in quality pass (AB) with a value addition of 28.3 per cent.
He said the results did not come as an accident but through hard work and teamwork, adding “you have to maintain the momentum and the desire to achieve great things.”
He said if the school did not maintain its momentum, it would be surpassed by schools such as Malaka and Moeng primary schools which were already doing their best to maintain their performance standard.
He said the 98 per cent ABC pass was an indication that the school was applying its creative and innovative skills and also going an extra mile to find ways of doing things extra-ordinarily.
“You have a challenge to maintain your standard and stabilising your methods of teaching,” he said.
Mr Morupisi informed them that President Mokgweetsi Masisi would like to see improvement in academic results because economic empowerment could not succeed without skilled labour.
He said it was upon teachers to raise innovative and self reliant young people adding that the school should not promote a culture of dependency.
For his part, MP for Palapye Mr Moiseraele Goya also commended Kediretswe Primary School for their outstanding performance.
He said one of the pillars of Vision 2036 was for the country to be a knowledge based economy and it all started at primary school level.
Mr Goya urged parents to take advantage of free education provided by the government by encouraging their children to study hard.
He said parents should ensure children were clean and had breakfast before leaving for school.
The school head, Mr Gagoitsiwe Malete said teachers worked extra hours without demanding overtime to achieve the results.
He said the school ensured that teachers finished the syllabus on time to allow them more time for revision.
Mr Malete said the school aimed to see pupils making it to tertiary institutions.
Kgosi Samuel Maforaga of Serorome ward however, raised concern over parents who failed to support their children and never attended meetings but only came to school when the child had failed. ENDS
