Official applauds youth association

18 Jul 2013

The deputy director of agricultural business in the Ministry of Agriculture has applauded the Ngwaketse South Youth Agricultural Management Association for their efforts to unite young food producers in order to maximise production.

Speaking during Kanye South market day in Mmathethe recently, Mrs Kebonye Tsheboeng said this would enhance healthy competition amongst local food producers. Ms Tsheboeng said farmers should work as a collective because they could share resources such as land, funds and technical support from experts.

She encouraged the association to work hard as a team to achieve their milestones and improve food production. Mrs Tsheboeng promised that her department would provide the association with the necessary agricultural business management expertise to ensure sustainability.

She commended the youthful association for the initiative, adding it would not only augment food production but create employment for other unemployed youth.

Mrs Tsheboeng said the mandate of her department was to promote commercialisation, diversification, sustainability and competition within the agricultural sector through business skills transfer, market access negotiations and promotion of agricultural associations and cooperatives. ENDS
