Bicycle usage improves service delivery
10 Jan 2013
The 12 bicycles that Botswana Police Service gave to Serowe police station have improved service delivery, Senior Superintendent Boikhutso Dintwa has said.
Senior Superintendent Dintwa said the use of bicycles during patrols had borne fruits and addressed the issue of shortage of transport.
The bicycles, he said, also quickened their response to incidents reported to them.
The use of bicycles, he said, could cover a wide area of inspection and recommended that they be introduced at the police stations as a way of addressing shortage of transport
Senior Superintendent Dintwa noted that the majority of officers were willing to use them, adding that it also helped them interact with the community.
The move, he noted, built a remarkable relationship between the police and the community.
However, he admitted that the bicycles quality was not satisfactory as some had frequent breakdowns.
Their servicing, he pointed out, took time and that impacted negatively on their inspectoral schedules.
On other issues, Senior Superintendent Dintwa acknowledged the commitment shown by police volunteers, saying they were devoted to curbing public indecency in Serowe during the festive season. ENDS
