BFA advises Sankoyo Bush Bucks to address irregularities

10 Jul 2017

Sankoyo Bush Bucks annual general meeting (AGM) which was scheduled for Saturday failed as members did not form a quorum as per the club’s constitution.

The clubs constitution says a meeting could be held if the registered members meet three quarters of the threshold. Since the launch of the membership drive, the club has registered 163 members of which the majority are from Sankoyo, and less than 70  showed up for the meeting.

After a lengthy discussion, members resolved to postpone the meeting to July 15, as there was fear that some members would complain that it was unconstitutional.

The objective of the AGM was to present the club’s report and elect a new executive committee.

The team has never held such a meeting because it did not have registered members who were eligible to vote during elections.

The meeting was called off after advice from Botswana Football Association (BFA) representative, Kgato Motai, who warned management to address the irregularities within the club.

He said there were a lot of irregularities since the team had been promoted to the elite league, adding that they had requested a meeting with the club management to give guidance but that their efforts beared no fruit.

He elaborated that some irregularities were issues of funds mismanagement, failure to work with the association and to honour regional meetings convened by the association.

Motai, who is also the chairperson of Nhabe Regional Football Association, gave a warning to the club, noting that the association had the power to de-register it from the premier league if it does not clean its house.

“There is a lot to be done within the club and you should understand that you are an affiliate to the association, hence the future of this club is in our hands. I urge you to put your house in order before you could face the consequences,” he added.

Regarding finances, he said after the team’s promotion, P1.5 million was collected as gate takings and that P900 000 was misused, adding that their efforts to advise were in vain.

He pointed out that they realised that everyone was collecting the gate takings for their gain while the players were suffering.

Motai also revealed that the club did not submit audited financial reports, hence the delay in getting a grant from the BFA.

He also emphasised the need for all executive committee members to be present during AGM.

The secretary general of the club was not present as it was reported that he was assigned to other club duties in Palapye together with another member of the executive committee.

Motai said the secretary general was the backbone of the club, and that his report was the pillar of the club as it outlined all the activities undertaken, achievements and  challenges encountered during the 2016/17 premier league season.

He also expressed disappointment regarding the club’s constitution, saying it was old and needed to be reviewed and amended to ensure it was aligned to the BFA and FIFA interests.

The club was also advised to speed up the club licensing process before the new season starts.

Motai also advised them to work hand in hand with the association going forward, and to elect members of the committee who would put the interests of the team first. ENDS
