Family donates to Molalatau children
07 Jan 2013
The Boddu family, which operates a Back to School shop in Selebi Phikwe, has donated educational materials to 180 orphans and needy children in Molalatau.
The family made the gesture on the birthday of their first daughter Shaamitha Boddu who turned three years old.
Shaamitha was born on January 1, and her mother Mrs Pallavi Boddu described her as a “loving little child who already acts like a grown up girl.”
The family celebrated their daughter’s birthday at Molalatau kgotla with 200 orphans and needy children.
In addition to the educational material, they provided the children with food.
Mrs Boddu said they wished their daughter to achieve great things in her life and the family celebrated the day by showing love to others.
She advised youth in Molalatau to take their education seriously as they were the future of the country. Back to School is a company that trades in educational materials and it donated rulers, pens, pencils and rubbers to children.
Mr Monamati Nteda, a social worker who spoke on behalf of the Bobirwa Sub-district Council, commended the family for the gesture of assisting the less fortunate.
Mr Nteda said the private sector should partner with the government to ensure that the less privileged members of society were provided for.
He was concerned that the numbers of orphans and needy children continued to grow in the sub district due to HIV/AIDS and drought.
Mr Monamati said the Department of Social and Community Development continued to ensure that poverty eradication programmes reached poverty stricken people. ENDS
