Strategy and BI manager at OLDM Mr Kgolagano Banabotlhe said the project started in 2012 when CARP peer educators came across Ms Banyaditsemang Modumedi in Mokobaxane whilst working with home based care support group.

Mr Banabotlhe stated that as they were moved by the company’s value of “show we care” they felt obliged to provide help.

They started by providing her with food and clothes. The team he said discovered that she had a plot closer to the clinic and the form of shelter on the plot was a dilapidated mud hut.

They proposed to renovate it and make it more conducive to live in.

Mr Banabotlhe said they then decided to push a little further and build a more decent structure.

The process of building a more durable structure he said was very slow and challenging at times as the team contributed money from their pockets and built only during weekends.

He said they engaged a local businessperson Mr Seretse of Rosepan hotel who volunteered to construct the house for free.

Mr Banabotlhe said their intension was to mobilise employees to work in partnership with the community to define, develop and implement community projects of CSI objectives and “show we care value.”

The project was estimated to cost P150 000, with provision of building materials by CARP, while  Rosepan provided employees and builders. ENDS
