19 Apr 2016
The Member of Parliament for Boteti East Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe has commended Orapa, Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines (OLDM) Support Services Peer educators for donating bed linen to Mokubilo RADS hostel.
Mr Lelatisitswe said this on Thursday in Mokubilo stating that the donation would motivate learners and restore their dignity. The bed linen included duvets, towels and pillows for two hundred learners residing in the hostel.
The donation, he said would also create a renewed sense of purpose amongst learners and further enhance their performance level in studies hence preparing them to face the challenges of a globalised world.
This, he said came at the most opportune time since the winter season was just around the corner, adding that the donation was also in line with the Vision 2016 pillar of a compassionate, just and caring nation.
Mr Lelatisitswe said it would enable them to compete effectively in global markets and take opportunities offered by globalization.
He commended OLDM support services peer educators saying this was another way of partnering with government as a private sector ensuring that Batswana become an educated and informed nation.
Mr Lelatisitswe noted that collectively Batswana could make a long lasting contribution to the lives of fellow Batswana.
OLDM support services peer educators representative Ms Maungo Saziba, said they were compelled to devise ways of assisting the learners after establishing that there was shortage of blankets at the RADS hostel.
Ms Saziba said they identified the need during the employees outreach initiative at Mokubilo, Makgaba and Mmea villages which were their outreach areas with the main aim of educating the community on wellness issues.
During one of the visits to the school, she said they learnt about the shortage and made a request to Debswana management through managers responsible for Seolo hotel to provide linen for the learners’ utilization.
The school head Ms Cathrine Mosalagae expressed concern that 200 boarding students were left unattended overnight hence she requested that matrons should take care of learners overnight.
Ms Mosalagae complained that students absconded from the hostels at night in large numbers with 16 fleeing the premises per week.
She also expressed concern that day scholars who were in standard one are often left under the care of standard four pupils, noting that this affected school performance. ENDS
