Police investigate bus incident
19 Apr 2016
A 29-year-old woman spent almost two hours trapped in a bus after it had veered off the road and fell on its side.
Assistant Superintendent Agrippa Gambule of Ramotswa Police Station, said the bus was on its routine route from Gaborone to Ramotswa.
Assistant Superintendent Gambule said the accident happened around 7pm. He said all passengers were rescued on time except for the woman, as they had to wait for a crane from Gaborone to lift the bus.
He said by the time the crane arrived, the passenger had already been rescued.
He said investigations were still ongoing to determine the cause of the accident. However, he confirmed that the bus was not speeding at the time of the accident.
He said the driver said the bus had a mechanical fault that made it difficult to control.
Assistant Superintendent Gambule said their investigations have determined that there were about 65 passengers on the bus, and that 35 passengers were treated and discharged the same day.
He added that two passengers who were referred to Princes Marina Hospital have been discharged.
Assistant Superintendent Gambule said the bus would be taken for testing and added that they would also question passengers and eye witnesses.
Still in Ramotswa, police are investigating an incident in which a vehicle crushed into a bar.
Assistant Superintendent Gambule said the driver of the vehicle locked it and left the scene. He, however, confirmed that they have identified the vehicle owner.
In another incident, police have arrested and charged a driver for transporting passengers without a public transport licence over the weekend. ENDS
