Seretse rekindles enthusiasm among pupils
17 Apr 2016
A sense of hope and enthusiasm was rekindled among pupils and teachers at Gakuto Primary School following donation of stationary by the area MP, Mr Vincent Seretse .
The legislator visited the school to donate stationary as well as interact with teachers and pupils.
The donation comprising of exercise books and pencils came at a time when the school was trying to redeem itself from the poor pass rate of 39 per cent during the 2015 Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE).
One of the students, Delma Bock, appreciated the donation saying it would be handy as she would use the book she received for her favourite subject, Science.
The standard three pupil said she had set her eyes on excellence and she enjoyed helping others with their school work.
As for Lefatshe Modise who is doing standard five said he would now do his homework and revision with enthusiasm. He encouraged other pupils to give their education the necessary attention it deserved.
Earlier on, Mr Seretse who is also the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry commended teachers for their role of educating the nation but noted that impressive results could only be achieved if all the stakeholders played part.
He also encouraged them to explore new ways that could help in improving the learners’ results.
He said primary teachers had a mammoth task of setting the foundation right at lower levels of education.
The area MP said more often the challenge was in the teacher learning process and this required teachers to be hands on and adaptive to changing times.
When briefing Mr Seretse and his delegation, the deputy school head, Ms Elizabeth Motlogelwa said the school had an enrolment of 481 with pupils from as far as Makanke, Mmopane, Mosidi and Metsimotlhabe.
She expressed concern at the schools performance during PSLE explaining that they attained 39 per cent for the 27 students that sat for the exams.
She noted that the schools intake for reception class started this year and the response had been overwhelming.
However, Ms Motlogelwa said despite the big number and shortage of resources such as classrooms and furniture, they were making use of the available resources.
She said the continued cooperation between teachers, Parents Teacher Association and the community was a worthy course as it has been able to yield fruits where some pupils played truant. ENDS
