Debswana Diamond Company has trained 23 school leaders on a supervisory development programme (SDP) under the Debswana Government Schools Development Programme (DGSDP).
The DGSDP is an in-service training and development programme that aimed at training government school teachers on English, Mathematics and Science to enhance academic performance in these subjects.
The training, which benefitted seven primary schools in Jwaneng and neighbouring villages had been estimated to cost P975 000.
The leadership teams included school heads, their deputies as well heads of departments from Jwana, Teemane, Kgalagadi, Dinonyane, Sese, Betesankwe and Maboane primary schools.
Speaking during the graduation ceremony in Jwaneng, the deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education and Skills Development Mr Simon Coles commended Debswana for such a great initiative.
He said even though his ministry received the largest chunk of the budget, they were still faced with challenges which hindered them to carry out some tasks.
He said by equipping teachers, Debswana had played a very important role since teachers were the backbone of every society and their role could not go unnoticed.
He urged the graduates to fully utilize the skills they had acquired for the benefit of their schools and the country at large.“It’s up to us as school leaders and teachers to put to good use this training. We should be able to see the results in the future,” he noted.
The chairperson of the Jwaneng mine Corporate Social Investment (CSI) committee Mr Tumelo Ntlhayakgosi said they were pleased to have successfully delivered on their 2014/2015 mandate. ENDS
