Desert Bush Walk bigger better
13 Apr 2016
The organiser of the Desert Bush Walk, Archibald Ngakaagae says this year’s edition, scheduled for July 30, will be bigger than the inaugural one that took place in 2014.
In an interview, Ngakaagae said although initially the idea was to organise a once-off event to construct a creative learning centre for Sese Primary School, the support and encouragement they got has propelled them to make it an annual event.
He said last year the event did not take place because the objective was to complete the 2014 project first, which was successfully handed over in September last year.
He said the many requests to help under-priviledged children made them to aim for a bigger and better event so that they could help more organisations. He noted that assessment of such requests would be done after the walk to determine which ones to fund.
He, however, said their objective was still focused on funding educational projects that would benefit under-priviledged children.
Furthermore, he said as a way of growing the Desert Bush Walk, they managed to register a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSI) Trust Fund early this year.
He said they were also in consultations with the town leadership to incorporate this year’s bush walk into the Botswana 50th anniversary celebrations.
Furthermore, he said the event would promote sport tourism as well as branding Jwaneng.
He said although preparations for the event were ongoing, he was still appealing to companies and individuals to pledge and sponsor material that could make the event a success.
“We appeal to individuals and companies to partner with us towards the success of yet another exciting walk for the benefit of our communities. By supporting this noble project, all individuals and companies will also contribute towards the Vision 2016 pillars of a compassionate, just and caring nation and that of an educated and informed nation as well as the Ministry of Education’s initiative of Adopt-a-School.”
The walk will be divided into two categories of 10km and 30km, and tickets are already available from various Spar Supermarkets across the country, Maru-a-Pula School and other outlets as well as online at BOPA
