Government to release report on S02 - Maele
31 Jan 2016
Kgosi Kgakgamatso Moletsane of Mabutsane has requested the government to rescind its decision to allocate a certain piece of land near Mabutsane coded SO2 to private ranchers.
Speaking during a kgotla meeting addressed by President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama recently, he said such a development would be detrimental to residents as the land encompasses their ploughing fields and grazing pastures.
In response, the Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Prince Maele said residents want the land to be a communal area. He, however, said a feasibility study on the land in-question has been completed.
He said the report would be released to the council in the near future, and that it would guide on how best to tackle the issue and see how much land could be allocated for communal grazing.
On other issues, Mr Maele said his ministry would build 11 houses in the village through the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP).
Kgosi Moletsane decried the shortage of accommodation by civil servants in the village. Kgosi Moletsane requested that public servants should be transferred within a reasonable time, saying if they overstay that may compromise service delivery.
He also complained about vacant posts that stay for a long time without being filled, adding that they should be filled immediately to expedite service delivery.
For his part, the Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Mr Kitso Mokaila said he wants to develop boreholes in the area to augment water supply.
He said water supply in the area was enough, but would come up with strategies to improve water reticulation. Ends
