The orientation programme at Mophane Primary School in Gaborone has graduated 98 pupils.
In an interview during the graduation ceremony in Gaborone, Mophane head teacher said the orientation was an initiative of the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, which was put in place in 2012 after thorough consultation with stakeholders.
She said the main objective of the orientation was to prepare learners for standard one as well as to sensitise them on the formal school setup and to help them adapt to the environment beforehand.
Ms Utlwang elaborated that the programme had a curriculum and teachers are sensitised on how to deliver it. She added that the pupils were taught from 8am to 10am.
“It is a curriculum geared towards bringing the kids closer to starting their primary school.
It prepares them holistically and makes them ready to start on a high note,” she said.
Ms Utlwang highlighted that even though the initiative was introduced by the ministry in 2012, her school introduced it before it started at all schools in 2011. Ends
