Mentoring part of assisting less
24 Nov 2015
Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele says assisting a less privileged member of the community is not confined to donations only.
Speaking at a family day and donation of a washing machine to SOS Children’s Village by Family of God church on Sunday, Mr Makgalemele said people could also be mentors of the less privileged.
He said some families were poor because of lack of information, and that as mentors of such families; one could provide information that could change their lives for the better.
He added that some families were poor because they were not aware of government empowerment programmes, and that a mentor could link them to such programmes.
Mr Makgalemele, who is also Shoshong MP, said the government has implemented flagship programmes aimed at assisting the poor, people with disabilities, historically marginalised groups such as women and the youth.
He urged members of the Family of God church to also create time to economically empower their families.
Mr Makgalemele commended the church for the donation and assured the church that the government would continue to guarantee, protect and promote people’s constitutional right to worship and religion.
He described the family as an important institution. Family, he said, keeps people together through thick and thin, adding that no person was complete without good family bonding.
The assistant minister cited different forms of families such as biological, inheritance, friendship and worship, amongst others, adding that there was need for one to belong to one.
Handing over the washing machine, Bishop Seamogetse Keoleletse said the salvation of the family was of paramount importance to the future of the nation. Ends
