Salajwe honours Oaitse

Songs, hymns and motivational preaching characterised the sombre funeral of Oaitse Morualebe in Salajwe on Saturday.

She was one of the seven girls who perished in a road accident when a truck transporting students of Matsha College overturned on November 13. Speakers at the funeral described Oaitse as a humble and obedient child who carried hope for the family.

His uncle, Mr Ditshotlego Mononyane said his nephew was a humble and obedient child. He said the family was still expecting a lot from the deceased and added that they had not received any bad report about her conduct either from the village or school authorities.

Another speaker, chief education officer for Kgalagadi region where Matsha College falls, Ms Khumoyame Mosetlha said they were deeply saddened by the passing away of the Matsha College students.  She said during her studies, there had never been any bad report about Oaitse’s conduct.

Ms Mosetlha stressed that there was never a time during her studies that she was summoned for indiscipline nor threatened to be expelled from boarding facilities. One of the survivors of the accident,Tshepo Matheatau in a separate interview described the deceased as a likeable young woman who got along with her peers.

Tshepo who was in the same class with the deceased during their school days at Lempu Junior School said Oaitse was destined to be the touch bearer for the family. The Minister of Education and Skills Development Dr Unity Dow read a condolence message from President Khama Ian Khama to the family. Oaitse who was born in 1996 is survived by her son, mother, father and four siblings. Ends
