Koranteng underscores need for websites

19 Nov 2015

An organisational website is key to the existence of an organisation, according to advisor to the Commonwealth Africa Anti-Corruption Centre (CAACC), Dr Roger Koranteng

Dr Koranteng said this at the launch of the CAACC website, in Gaborone recently.

He said with more people using search engines to find information, it was critical for CAACC to have a strong web presence.

Moreover, he said, the website allowed people to learn about an organisation in an efficient manner because they could use a search engine or click on a link to find the information that they were looking for, without reading through long paragraphs of information about an organisation in a newspaper or journal.

“This website shall allow the organisation to be found by many people and enterprises on the internet as opposed to looking at an outdoor print promotional material, poster, that is placed on a building, but is rarely noticeable by people, and firms that walk by the sign,” Dr Koranteng said.

He said his belief was that the website would be updated regularly with fresh content on the centre’s activities, project and events.

“The content will appeal to eye in order to lure people to the website and enquire about the serviced and products on offer. CAACC shouldt be fully marketed through this website to attract users. This will ensure that the Centre in not only known in the 18 commonwealth Countries in Africa,” he said.

Dr Koranteng said the establishment of the Centre with the involvement of member countries,is a sign that Africa and the wider Commonwealth were rooting out corruption, demonstrating that it has the potential to grow Africa Beyond.

For his part, CAACC centre manager, Mr Mogomotsi Rantsetse,  thanked the  Directorate of Corruption and Economic Crime for their extended support to the centre.

He said as an anti-corruption resource centre, communication was critical to the realisation of their strategy, thus the idea of designing and developing the website was borne out of their realisation that information sharing was central and important in the global anti-corruption crusade.

“Among other things that this website will substantially yield to the Commonwealth Africa Anti-corruption agencies, is effective flow of information, improved collaboration and network between anti-corruption agencies, active participation of stakeholders in combating and preventing corruption.

He expressed that the Citizenry of the individual countries and the continent will acknowledge the importance of this Commonwealth Africa Anti-Corruption Centre’s website.

He cautioned against the misuse and abuse of entrusted power for personal gains in the continent, which he said it was very harmful to the stability of many economies, adding that wars have ravaged most parts of the beautiful continent in the process of illicit enrichment by the few.

“This information technology facility should be a point of departure for serious research and analysis of corruption trends by everyone, organisations and share their findings and observations. It will be these findings and observations that countries could know and appreciate the best ways to destroy seeds of corruption before they germinate. Ends
