Botswana's 2012 Olympic Games Silver medallist, Nijel Amos and international actress Lorato Motshwarakgole visited Matsha College students who were involved in an accident on Friday to stay strong and believe that “all shall be well.”
Amos told BOPA afterwards that the whole intention of their visit was to give the students hope and assure them that life is full of challenges, therefore they should remain strong and know that, they would not be down forever.
He said he was happy that the medical team taking care of the victims are hands on, ensuring they get the best possible attention.“During the visit, I managed to crack jokes with some of them and it was nice seeing them laughing, honestly it was tense, but seeing them laughing and shaking hands ,made me realise that there was a lot of improvement in their state of health,” he said.
Furthermore, Amos said his intention was to mobilise other athletes, both locally and internationally to visit the victims even after being discharged from hospital, and see how best they can assist them.
On the other hand Motshwarakgole said she felt relieved after seeing the victims and motivating them to stay resilient and not despair.
“It is sad that they were involved in an accident but it is also comforting that the nation is doing all it can to assist the victims in different ways,” she said. Princess Marina Hospital Manager, Setso Setso said the duo's presence at Princess Marina was comforting as it would give the victims a ray of hope.
“I am confident that they will get better, and you being there for them is a welcome development,” he said. The victims, he said needs the supports even after discharge from the hospital. He applauded Amos and Motswarakgole for finding it fit to come and encourage the victims. Ends
