Mahill Social Football club show compassion
18 Nov 2015
Mahill Social Football Club has donated various items to a physically challenged student at Matshekge Hill Senior Secondary School.
The items include specially designed shoes, a school uniform, toiletries, barber expenses for a year and transport fees to and from the school for the period of study.
Speaking at a ceremony to hand over the items, Mr Babuluki Bajiti, the senior secondary school head said providing a conducive learning environment for every student regardless of their physical state was essential as it enhances academic performance.
The student, Bareetseng Keabetswe, is physically challenged.
Mr Bajiti noted that one of the Vision 2016 pillars called for a compassionate, just and caring nation.
He applauded the club for the gesture and organising the ceremony, adding that their act of kindness showed the true spirit and culture of Batswana which emphasises the importance of lending a helping hand where there was a need.
Giving an overview of the initiative, the social club’s chairperson, Mr Ohimile Gaorewe said they were a fitness club, but were committed to helping others through activities they could engage in to give back to the community and help brand the school name.
Mr Gaorewe noted that the club, with the assistance of the school’s teaching and non-teaching staff, managed to hold a football tournament and that the proceeds generated went towards payment of school transport fees for Keabetswe.
He said this was an effort to make his trips to and from school less strenuous.
Mr Gaorewe also extended his gratitude to the business community in the village who responded positively to their plea. He added that they made pledges in cash and in kind to make the initiative a success.
Giving a vote of thanks, the school’s Parents Teachers Association(PTA) chairperson, Mr Lesang Mokobi applauded the club and staff for reaching out to the community.
He urged them to continue with more acts of kindness in future, as they could help build a strong relationship between the school and parents and eventually lead to the attainment of good academic results. Ends
