President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama has sent a message of condolence to the families of the victims of Friday’s road accident involving Matsha College students.
In his message, the President says he learnt with great sorrow about the tragic road accident that claimed the lives of some of Botswana’s promising young citizens, leaving several others injured.
“On behalf of the government and the people of the Republic of Botswana and indeed on my own behalf, I wish to covey to the bereaved families, the school and Kang community, as well as all Batswana, my heartfelt condolences and sympathies. This is not only a loss to the families, but to the nation as a whole. As a young country, when we lose young lives in such numbers, we feel very strongly that we have been robbed of the future or the promise and potential from these young people”, he says.
President Khama says whilst this was a tragic and unfortunate incident to befall the nation, it was during such situations that “we have shown resolve and resilience as Batswana through our value system of supporting each other during these difficult and trying times”.
He further wished speedy recovery to the injured and asked the nation to join him in praying for the families of victims, relatives and friends for God to offer them solace and comfort during these trying times.
Meanwhile the Botswana National Youth Council (BNYC) joined the voices of many in expressing its deepest condolences of the death of Matsha college students. In his message, the chairperson of BNYC Kitso Masi said on behalf on the board, he wished to convey their sincere condolences to the deceased families and the nation at large.
“Now it is a time for us to stand together and support those in loss in the true spirit of a united nation,” he said. BOPA
