Jwaneng mayor appeals for assistance

09 Nov 2015

Private companies operating in the mining town of Jwaneng have been urged to support initiatives that are aimed at improving the welfare of residents.

Speaking at a charity fun day organised by the Saving Souls Initiative, the town mayor, Mr Tsietsi Oodira-Kwenje said that it was of paramount importance that private businesses operating in Jwaneng should have a role in helping the community that they operate within.

He said that since Jwaneng was known for producing the best diamonds by value, it should also be reflected on the social welfare of its people.

He explained that for this to be achieved there should be support from all stakeholders including the private sector.

The mayor applauded the four youth members of Saving Souls Initiative for their commitment and passion to help the disadvantaged school children with lunch and other needs, emphasising that such was a realisation of the Vision 2016 pillar of a passionate, just and caring nation.

He also advised the members of the Saving Souls Initiative to be accountable for the funds they got from the charity event.

He said that having accountability will also act as an attraction for extra funds from different stakeholders within Jwaneng and beyond.

Mr Oodira-Kwenje further encouraged the members to work hard and be determined to make a success of the organisation as it will be improving the lives of the innocent school children from Kadue and Bodumatau settlements.

The Saving Souls Initiative spokesperson, Ms Lucia Seitiso stated that the main objectives of the organisation was to play a role in making life easy for disadvantaged school children.

She said that by so doing, the children will be able to concentrate on their school work for a better future.

She also mentioned that the organisation also intends to help the school children with free tutorials for their school work as they travel long distances to school.

She also explained that they have been feeding 30 children from Kgalagadi and Jwana primary schools out of their pockets, but they had realised that there was a lot that needs to be done for the welfare of the children, hence the need to raise funds.

She pleaded with individuals and businesses operating in the town to support their organisation, explaining that by supporting them they will be taking part in improving and molding the future of the children.

She appreciated Galaxy Football Club for providing a football pitch for the event and providing four teams from their development initiative to support their event. Majwe Mining Joint Venture, Zacam construction, Benchmark and Liquarama were also appreciated for their contributions for the success of the event. Ends
