Wellness days pivotal to productivity

09 Nov 2015

The deputy wellness committee chairperson for the Ministry of Agriculture in Kanye says wellness days are a recipe for productivity at the work place.

Speaking in an interview during the ministry’s wellness day in Kanye recently, Mr Kopano Lobaka said productivity at the work place started with staff being fit for work. Mr Lobaka observed that employers often times lost business due to employees who were absent from work as a result of ill-health.

He thus encouraged staff to do regular physical exercise with a view to improving energy levels, which he argued would ultimately translate into productivity at work.

Mr Lobaka further contended that taking time off to play games together regardless of positions at work or stations in life, enhanced staff morale and team spirit.

The deputy argued that staff that played together grew together as a unit and often learned to share the blame and credit together. He cited as a case in point, one race in which a pair of players’ legs were tied together with a rope as being intended to stress the essence of team work.

Under the theme, “My health my wealth,”Mr Lobaka shared that they held a similar event on Valentine’s day early this year to raise awareness on the importance of a fulfilling social life.

He further raised a view that employees who were not happy at home were usually not optimally productive at work.

Hence, he urged other government departments to come up with staff wellness initiatives in order to encourage employees to be the best they could be at work.

“Take a leaf from His Excellency President Lieut Gen. Ian Khama, he always takes time off his busy schedule to engage in sporting activities,” he said. Ends
