Batshu urges residents to respect law

09 Nov 2015

Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Mr Edwin Batshu has called on Batswana to obey the law.

Addressing a kgotla meeting in Sefhophe recently, Minister Batshu said he was concerned about the number of cases that were still being registered where Batswana employed illegal immigrants or people without work permits.

As such, Minister Batshu encouraged Batswana to comply with the process of employing expatriates.

He also said regulations were in place to guide employment of expatriates in areas where Batswana did not have the expertise.

Mr Batshu explained that applications had to go through rigorous scrutiny for security reasons to avoid situations where people gained access into the country with wrong intensions such as causing conflict or acts of terrorism or spying.

The minister said he was also concerned about Batswana who he said were picky when it comes to employment.

Thus, he said people should change their attitude and take jobs that were available to sustain their lives.

On other issues, Minister Batshu also encouraged parents to register births within the required 30 days and include their fathers’ names on birth certificates as well as register deaths.

Further, the minister was also concerned about registration of churches, thus urged people to comply with registration processes.

Mr Batshu also asked Sefhophe residents to prepare for the Roving Torch which would arrive in their village in due course. The torch, he said symbolised unity, peace and tranquillity among Batswana. He sad Batswana should take pride in the roving torch and safeguard and maintain peace in the country.  Ends
