Four survive crocodile attack

08 Nov 2015

Four people have survived crocodile attacks at Tsanakona settlement along Thamalakane River in different incidents last week.

Some Tsanakona residents said in an interview that three incidents involved children while one involved a 51-year-old man who was the last victim.

They said some victims were attacked while trying to fetch water from the river while others were swimming.

It was reported that the children survived with injuries on the legs and hands and were rescued by neighbours.

A relative to a 51-year-old man, Ms Kelebogile Mokando said the victim was attacked by the crocodile while swimming and it cut off his right arm and left hand fingers.

The victim was rescued by some workers from the nearby farm and was rushed to Maun general clinic and later referred to Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital where he is recuperating.

The hospital public relations officer, Mr Tumisang Letsholo confirmed that they have admitted some patients who survived crocodile attacks, but could not disclose their number.

Meanwhile, some residents who reside in settlements on the banks of the Thamalakane River complained about some crocodiles that caused havoc by killing their livestock and injuring people.

They said crocodiles have impoverished them because they were left empty handed.

Besides crocodiles, they said they were concerned about dogs that roamed settlements and some criminals who slaughtered their livestock and sold them to local butcheries.

Residents appealed to the relevant department to reduce the number of crocodiles and move them to other water sources. Ends
