The acting station commander for Letlhakeng police, Assistant Superintendent Daniel Katse, says since its launch at the beginning of this month, the 60 days of action on crime and road safety is going smoothly in their policing area.
Ass Supt Katse said they had managed to arrest a few illegal immigrants, but said their main concern was the high rate of traffic offences s.
“So far traffic offences have been the highest in the area, especially driving over the recommended speed limit as well as driving unroadworthy vehicles,” he said
Ass Supt Katse also said it was disturbing to note that in this era, there were individuals who still drove without driver’s licenses.
He was however, confident that by the festive season, they would have reduced the number of offences around, which is one of the main objectives of the campaign.
He also revealed that just before the holiday, they would also start the annual road block operation that includes other stakeholders such as the Department of Road Transport and Safety as well as other departments like Bylaw enforcement.
“This operation normally starts about a week before the holidays when movement of people starts to intensify, and we will be using the chance to educate the public on the importance of road safety as we normally do around that time,” he said.
Ass Sup. Katse also hailed the cooperation of people in their policing area, and promised that his officers will continue to litter the area until the operation ends at the end of the year. Ends
