Parliament to swear in Lotlaamoreng
05 Nov 2015
All eyes will be on the National Assembly on Monday (November 9) where President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama is expected to deliver the State-of-the-Nation-Address.
The first meeting of the second session of the 11th Parliament is likely to witness the swearing in of the parliamentary elect for Good Hope-Mabule, Kgosi Lotlaamoreng II and the endorsement of a specially elected MP.
The State-of-the-Nation-Address marks the beginning of a Parliament session that runs from November to July the following year.
The President is expected to touch on a number of issues such as unemployment, water, electricity and the Economic Stimulus Programme that government intends to introduce to accelerate employment creation and push the backlog of projects, most of which were affected by the economic downturn.
Kgosi Lotlaamoreng of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) replaces former MP for Good Hope-Mabule, Mr James Mathokgwane, also from UDC, who resigned the post in May.
The post for specially elected MP fell vacant after the specially elected MP, Mr Eric Molale resigned the post in order to contest and represent the Botswana Democratic Party in the Good Hope-Mabule constituency bye-election.
The Parlaiment event, which is usually attended by diplomats and captains of industries, will be broadcast live on Botswana Television at the Parliament buildings.
It is estimated that the meeting will last five weeks and will end on or around December 11. Ends
