Satau celebrates Christmas in style
28 Dec 2012
Satau was the place to be on Christmas day as the people of Chobe congregated there for an array of events.
The day saw many young people from Satau and Parakarungu coming together to celebrate Christmas through sporting activities such as a 10-kilometre cycling competition, 10-kilometre marathon, athletics and football.
When opening the event, an official from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, David Lebalelo advised the youth to be careful with how they spent their leisure time.
Lebalelo said through such activities, many young people could discover their talent and affording them such a platform could help a lot. He encouraged the village leadership and other stakeholders to give serious consideration to building recreational facilities to keep the youth from crime and other harmful activities.
Lebalelo encouraged the elders to also participate in physical activities for the good of their health, adding that diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease could be managed through physical activities.
He said it was through such activities that residents could meet and share ideas on how to develop their region.
He also advised the organisers and stakeholders to seek sponsorship to make the event a success. One of the organisers, Molongwana Munisola, said the objective of the day was to provide fun and recreational opportunities that promoted good health and well-being.
Munisola noted that the plan was to make it an annual event after realising that during Christmas holidays, many people concentrated more on football but they wanted to include other sporting codes. ENDS
