Chobe NGOs should unite

07 Apr 2013

The coordinator of FHI 360, a Kasane-based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Mr Thoteletso Modise has said it is about time NGOs in Chobe come together to form a coalition.

Speaking during a one-day workshop in Kasane recently, Mr Modise said they had realised that, some of the NGOs in Chobe District did not have enough resources making it difficult to reach villages that were in the district.

“By coming together we can share resources and manage to stretch to those areas,” Mr Modise advised.

He added that should they become one coalition of Chobe District, they could speak in one voice.

This, he said, would give them a strong voice in the district that would change the lives of the people living in Chobe.

Furthermore, he explained that by forming one coalition, they would not be abandoning their own organisations, but the main purpose was to reach people on time and improve the lives of people in Chobe.

Mr Modise said they would not only deal with the HIV/AIDS issue but they would also deal with different issues that were affecting the district since not all the organisations deatl with the scourge

An advisor from the University of Ghana, Ms Julia Boyle said coming together as one coalition would make them share experiences and knowledge acquired from their different organisations, which would harness networking between the organisations.

Ms Boyle said that they needed support from the public and business sector that was operating in the district in order to reach all the needs of the people living in Chobe district. ENDS
