The Indian Association in Botswana recently donated clinical instruments to Tutume Primary Hospital.
The goods, which were worth over P10 000, included clinical thermometers, patient trolleys, vacuum cleaner and pulse oxymetres. They were received by the hospital management, hospital advisory committee members and the Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Mr Edwin Batshu.
Speaking at the occasion, the chief medical officer of the hospital, Dr Lionel Nkulu commended the association members for engaging in such a project. He said they had done a remarkable job, adding that they had set a good example for others and also thanked them for their generosity.
Dr Nkulu said the goods will help improve the situation at the hospital, adding that they are still experiencing shortage of incubators for newborn babies in maternity ward as the hospital receives high number of deliveries every month.
He promised them that they will use the instruments efficiently to improve the work conditions of the hospital. The president of the association, Mr Rajat Dhuria said they raised money during their cultural festivals, which they then used for charity work.
He also said they were made aware of the situation through the then area Member of Parliament (MP) Mr Batshu. He further said their association is doing charity work and had donated to Mochudi hospital and some charitable organizations around Gaborone.
Mr Dhuria promised the hospital management that they will assist as they had seen the situation and now know more about the hospital. ENDS
